On February 20, 2025, Dr. Leslye Kornegay, Executive Director of University Environmental Services at Duke University, served as the Black History Month Keynote Speaker for an event hosted by ME², the School of Medicine’s Employee Resource Group for Black staff.
In a powerful and deeply personal address titled “One Black Woman’s Journey Leading in Predominantly White Institutions (PWI’s),” Dr. Kornegay reflected on her path through leadership in spaces where representation is still too often lacking. With grace, authenticity, and conviction, she shared the triumphs and trials that have shaped her professional story, offering insight into what it means to lead with purpose, resilience, and cultural integrity.
